“Hey Ally, what’s up? “I’m good no thanks to you”, she snarked. I laughed a little tensed because there she goes again but hey, she’s still talking to me. “So I was thinking… maybe I can go with you on your next photo walk? We could eat lunch in Chinatown ‘coz there’s this hole in the whole which literally gets swamped by people for their dumpling and yang chow. We could sneak in after lunch which is their busiest time of the day except dinner. What to do you think?” “Looks like you’ve got it all sorted out.” She said with that monotone voice again. “So, I’ll see you at 10 tomorrow?” she continued to say. “Yah, see you.” Woah, I think I got myself a date with the Queen of Icy Melts.
I tapped three times and waited exactly 6 minutes before someone opened the door. “You must be Justin.” The woman who was a lot smaller than Ally exude a different king of appeal that will be attractive to a lot of guys. Her hair is short unlike Ally who’s got waves and had her hair dyed. She’s also pretty like Ally but in a pixie kind of way. “Hi, yes I am.” I smiled but I was really nervous. “I’m Moody, Ally’s older sister and bff. You give her a hard time you’ll answer to me, get it?” Stunned, I forced a timid laugh. “I will, no problem. I’m harmless and…..” “Yah yah whatever just bring her home without any broken pieces, understand?” I was about to answer when Ally came from what looks like a sun room and she’s wearing a little smile today and that’s a good sign. “Hey Justin, let’s go?” She grabbed my hand after she kissed her sister and we went on our way. Moody was still trying to say something but Ally was already heading out and since her hand was attached to mine, I had to come with her.
When we arrived at her choice of photo inspiration, I was a bit surprised because I didn’t know that such a pretty face would want to take photos of a place like this. I’m not one to belittle people or places, it’s just that the place is chaotic and I would think that she’ll be afraid of places like this what with bums having their drinking sessions this early. She looked at me like she read what I was thinking. “My interests vary and I don’t limit myself with beautiful photos all year round. I like to think I’m versatile, that I can go anywhere and take photos of everything; the good and the bad and make it appear beautiful just the same.” This is the first time she let me peek through her façade. She didn’t say anymore but I get her. “Some may think that chemical are only used for warfare and for the benefit of just a few but there are times even in health related topics that we need chemical to get through life. That’s what I do and I’ve been in love with the subject since I was a kid.” I exclaimed. She smiled and to me that’s something because she rarely does that when she looks at me… come to think of it I believe she’s never smiled at me before; it’s either her poker face I have to look at or a slight snarl.
We ended up taking the table at the far end of the eatery. We were both sweating, hungry and tired. We ordered their special and added some noodles too and buchi for dessert. “Are we visiting another place after lunch?” I asked. “No but we can go another place if you’re up for it.” “Where to?” “There’s this place just outside of the city, like an hour away and there are trees everywhere and at night hundreds…. no… thousands of fireflies swan through the air and you could almost touch them and play with them. We can go get a bottle and put some there and release them afterwards, what do you think? “Sounds great, I smiled and gobbled away.
We killed time by driving around the place which was a raw beauty. It’s literally untouched and there are only a few who drove by. It’s quiet and anyone who’ll discover this place can just get lost for a while before reality hits again. When it was getting dark, she pointed me to the right direction and in ten minutes, we were there. There were either bushed or trees and wild flowers around and not too much space to run on but just enough to enjoy the greenery and smell the cool air. She was walking before me and it’s getting darker by the minute. She stopped and sat so I joined her. “This is where they’ll appear. Let’s wait a few minutes and they’ll come.” I looked at her and she seemed peaceful. “I think I see one.” I told her. After the minute I told her more came and they looked like little lights suspended in the air and it was amazing. She stood up but she didn’t move. She just stood there with thousand of fireflies surrounding her.
