She said she wanted to take in the night air but our noses stuffed with smoke from way too many people having their cigarettes outside is far from what I was thinking she liked. She was playing with her hot caramel macchiato, stirring it clumsily while she quickly glanced at me then at the people seated on different chairs around us then back to her coffee. She didn’t talk so I was compelled to bring out a topic about Aerosmith and how his mouth is so big. I also offered that I often wonder if he did really undergo plastic surgery to which she answered only after she rolled her eyes that he was pretty transparent about. She looked at me with that “You should’ve known look”.
Okay so she’s really out of reach sometimes but her eyes are really pretty. I think I’ve said that before to myself but whenever I look at them I see how I want to ask what’s hiding beneath those pretty eyes. I imagine all the things those eyes have seen. Maybe some of which are ridiculous but I still want to know what those are but with the way things are going I’m just not sure if she’ll be less edgy around me any time soon. I’ve been thinking of ways on how I can get to know her. Maybe I can tell her I own a dog which is partly true since Katie belongs to Hannah and she’s my sister so it’s like Katie’s my dog too. Or, I can tell her I own lots of books which is not particularly true but I can start buying now. Or, I can tell her that her eyes are pretty and they fascinate me. Yes I can tell her that but why would I do that? She’ll think I’m a stalker.
I looked at her once more, very steadily and slowly. She put out her journal and she’s writing something so I asked her what she’s doing. She gave me a poker face and a poker answer afterwards; if that’s even a word. Something about me not talking, that’s what she said as she looked at her journal again, even more bored this time. I’m not sure what’s happening. Oftentimes, I’m sure of myself and can chat with anybody but when it’s her it’s almost like I’m always tongue tied; maybe because she looked like a beast when she’s talking to me. Not an ugly beast but a beast with pretty eyes. So I just asked her what sort of things she writes about. She gave me her card and didn’t say a word. I didn’t know asking is not welcome anymore in this day and age. A simple explanation would do but she handed me a card instead so I guess I have to find out for myself then.
